The chef Michel Guérard passed away on Sunday night at the age of 91. The master of Eugénie-les-Bains, a three-starred chef for almost 50 years, was renowned for his “healthy cuisine”, his expertise in modern, delicate cuisine rooted in the Landes region.
Michel Guérard, with his laughing intelligence and encyclopedic knowledge, was, along with the Troisgros brothers, Alain Senderens, Alain Chapel and Paul Bocuse, one of the leaders of the Nouvelle Cuisine movement that revolutionized gastronomy in the late 70s and established French excellence worldwide as a benchmark for good taste.
As guest of the "Dîner des Grands Chefs" at Sirha Lyon in 2019, he paid tribute to Paul Bocuse in a speech that was as truculent as it was moving, and which he concluded with "Ciao Paulo, see you soon in your new garden of delights, I'm already salivating at the thought of the joyous reunion that awaits us."
Today, the entire Bocuse d'Or cooking family pays tribute to Michel Guérard.
