By Rodolphe Pelosse

Paris is brimming with restaurants, each more extraordinary than the last!
So how do you stand out in a city full of great dining spots? Some places not only serve delicious food, but also manage to raise an eyebrow at some point — whether it’s the decor, the dishes, the recipe, or the vibe. These are the restaurants that break away from the traditional game by adding a dash of the unexpected.
Here are 5 spots with that little something extra.

TROUBLE

15 Rue Hippolyte Lebas, 75009 Paris
From tuesday to saturday 5 pm - midnight
30-50 €

Just a couple of pedal strokes from the vibrant Rue des Martyrs, Trouble is a wine bar that delights in making you forget it's a wine bar at all. Because let’s be honest — in most classic wine bars, wine is the star of the show while the food tends to nap in the background, with charcuterie, terrines, and other sleepy finger foods.
At Trouble, the script is flipped. Here, wine doesn’t go solo — it shares the stage with a big band of dishes, all conducted by chef Stefano (formerly of Passerini and the Experimental Group). The crunch of endive tempura hits like a bass line. The asparagus salad hums a soft, catchy melody. Ricotta–citron ravioli in dashi? A riff that gets your hips moving. And the irresistible groove of the Morteau sausage or veal meatballs hot-dog style? They light up the dance floor.
To close the set, there’s just one dessert on the menu: the Tiramichou. This little sweet gem is a soul ballad that wraps you in silky softness.
Trouble should be added straight to your “must-try” playlist. Just a heads-up: no reservations, and doors open from 5 p.m. — so plan accordingly!

VAISSEAU

35 rue Faidherbe, 75011 Paris
Monday to Friday evenings, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Wednesday to Friday lunchtimes, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
Menu « N’importe quoi » : 120€ (food and drink pairing + 80€)

Mayday, mayday — we've got a gastronomic UFO on our hands! It's captained by the utterly free-spirited Adrien Cachot. Alongside his co-pilot and love Émie, and a tight-knit, loyal crew, freedom is clearly their guiding star: freedom to create, to organize, to set their own pace — without ever feeling bound by rules or expectations. The result? A whirlwind of about fifteen flavor punches that land without warning. It’s fun, it’s delicious, it’s thought-provoking — it makes you question your tastes and break down old assumptions. There’s no menu, no obligations, just a ride from surprise to surprise.
Trying to rationalize it or rank the dishes? Honestly, good luck. The savory mochis? The scallop with veal sweetbreads? The sole and crab bao? The brain croquette? The horseradish and praline bite? The melted maroilles with Kriek ice cream? Words kind of fail when the flavors often bypass what your brain thinks it knows.
Really, you just have to go. Truly. But plan ahead — it’s constantly in high demand.
Oh, and this UFO? It’s called VAISSEAU. A wild, otherworldly experience just recently touched by a star.

DAIMANT SAINT HONORÉ

24-26, Pl. du Marché Saint-Honoré, 75001 Paris
Monday to Sunday, 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm / 7:00 pm – 10:45 pm
Weekend grand lunch: Sunday, 12:00 pm – 3:30 pm
40-60 €

The PlanD crew (those sandwich-loving plant-based rebels) are at it again! After shaking up Paris’s food scene with their first fully plant-based spot, Faubourg Daimant, they’re back with a brand-new address. The concept is still 100% plant-based, but this time the spotlight’s on… rotisserie. And honestly, the second the first dishes hit the table, you completely forget it’s “plant-based.” It’s just not even part of the conversation. The food is so good, it sweeps away any lingering prejudice. Hasta la vista, stereotypes.
In a room decked out in blood-red tones, the plates start flying: a surprisingly bold seaweed caviar, a simple yet playful roasted cabbage, an enormous, ultra-crunchy radish carpaccio, the now-famous "cochonne" croquettes (oh yes, they live up to the name), and a lineup of dishes each sexier than the last.
Who said vegetarian food is just for vegetarians? When it’s done right, it delights every palate — and that’s all there is to it. You really don’t want to miss this one.

HABILE

16 rue de Lancry 75010 Paris
Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 am – 11:00 pm (non-stop service)
40€-60€

Well, we’ve found the perfect spot to have a blast! HABILE is no ordinary restaurant: you get to indulge in amazing dishes and leave with some seriously cool clothes. The owners, Éric and Camille, had the brilliant idea of combining their talents in one place. He’s the chef, so he’s in charge of the kitchen, and she’s the stylist, so she runs the workshop.
Most people come primarily to eat. And there’s zero disappointment! Everything is homemade with seasonal ingredients. The stuffed cabbage (a vice-champion of France, mind you!) with blood sausage, the mayo eggs (vice-champion of the world – yeah, Éric’s into competitions), the homemade pâté en croûte without butter in the dough (so light, yet still indulgent), the roasted beets... And... the rice pudding seasoned with homemade olive oil... bam!
We were tempted by the croque-monsieur that looked insane, but hey… you’ve got to know when to resist. Oh, and the wine list totally delivers.
Let’s be real: we’re going back (the croque’s calling…). Not just because it’s so good, but also because their sweatshirts and beanies were totally tempting us. And their slogan? “Never trust a skinny chef.” Nuff said.

FANA

14, rue Ferdinand-Flocon, 75018 Paris
Tuesday to Saturday, 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm / 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
45€-55€

A hidden gem tucked away in a pedestrian street in the 18th arrondissement, Fana sits alone on the left as you walk up, far from the noise but close to happiness. A small French food bistro with a soft and friendly atmosphere. The team has great culinary experience and gives the feeling of truly enjoying making others happy, working in harmony with the front-of-house crew.
At first, we’re a bit surprised by the calm of the room, which stands in contrast to the trendy codes of today’s food scene. We sit down, a little doubtful. But then, it’s one pleasant surprise after another. First, the menu is short — always a good sign. Although, we agree, it’s not the size that matters (but the taste!). And the taste? A festival of satisfaction for the taste buds: the sautéed oyster mushrooms with coffee sabayon and the marinated lomo are as comforting as a crackling fireplace in the heart of winter.
Finally, the desserts are seductive and perform a languorous dance: the magical Paris-Brest and the drool-worthy Mont-Blanc (#passionmontblanc)! Fana offers a true food-hug experience: discreet, kind, and unexpectedly guiding you through a wonderfully soft and indulgent evening. Isn’t that exactly what we need right now?
